DIGITAL RECORDING <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES <br />Wednesday, June 7, 2017 <br />The weekly meeting of the City Council of the City of Bremerton was called to order Wednesday, <br />June 7, 2017, at 5:00 PM in Council Conference Room 603 of the NORM DICKS GOVERNMENT <br />CENTER, 345 6th Street, Bremerton, Washington, with Council President Eric Younger <br />presiding. Council Members present were Richard Huddy, Dino Davis, Greg Wheeler, Jerry <br />McDonald, Leslie Daugs, and Pat Sullivan. Also present were City Attorney Roger Lubovich; City <br />Clerk Shannon Corin; Legislative Assistant Lori Smith; and Kevin Matthew, Information Services <br />Manager. <br />A COUNCIL BRIEFING was held to discuss General Council Business at 5:00 PM in the Council <br />Conference Room. At 5:30 PM the meeting moved to the Meeting Chambers. <br />The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Council Member Pat Sullivan followed by the Invocation <br />provided by Kurt Wiest, President of the Bremerton Stake for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter <br />Day Saints. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT OATH OF OFFICE CEREMONY <br />Mayor Lent performed the Oath of Office for new Fire Chief David Schmitt. <br />MAYOR'S REPORT — Mayor Lent announced the following... <br />• As of June 1, there are 113 permits pending in the City's Department of Community <br />Development with a total revenue value of $48,460,712; <br />• Read a proclamation to proclaim Saturday, June 10, 2017 as "The 91" Annual <br />Washington Youth Academy Rides & Rods Rally Day"; which was accepted by WYA <br />Director Larry Pierce and David Raymond who also announced the gth Annual <br />Washington Youth Academy Rides & Rods Rally on Saturday, June 10 at 10:00 AM <br />beginning at Pendergast Regional Park; <br />• Annual Kitsap County Junk Furniture Round Up will be on Sunday, June 11 from 8:00 AM <br />to 4:00 PM at the Olympic View Transfer Station; <br />• Free "Summer Movies at the Manette Playfield" will be on June 16, July 14, and August 16; <br />• Read a proclamation to proclaim June 17, 2017 as the "151 Annual Recognition of 151 <br />Years of Freedom from Slavery" and encouraged the community to participate in the <br />Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, June 17 at Evergreen Rotary Park; <br />• The Chimacum Community Celebration will be on Thursday, June 22 from 10:00 AM to <br />4:00 PM with the Ceremony at 1:30 PM at the Bremerton Ferry Terminal; <br />• Read a proclamation to proclaim Saturday, June 24, 2017 as "National Inclusive Play <br />Day"; which was accepted by Darla Hicks who announced the "So All May Play" Date on <br />Saturday, June 24 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Evergreen Rotary Park; and <br />• Read a proclamation to proclaim Saturday, June 24 & Sunday, June 25, 2017 as <br />"National Amateur Radio Field Day"; which was accepted by Steve Burton, who invited <br />members of the public to come out and participate in the amateur radio field day activities <br />from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM on both Saturday and Sunday. <br />PUBLIC RECOGNITION <br />Mike Walton, Kitsap Family YMCA Community Relations Director, highlighted the events and <br />activities taking place this summer at the "Y". <br />Roy Runyon pointed out that Council Members are sworn in to uphold the Constitution, which he <br />said he will elaborate on at a later time in the meeting. <br />
