DIGITAL RECORDING coun <br /> CITY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES AMUR <br /> Wednesday, May 2, 2012 MAY 16 2012 <br /> The weekly meeting of the City Council of the City of Bremerton was called to order Wednesday, <br /> May 2, 2012, at 5 00 PM in Council Conference Room 603 of the NORM DICKS GOVERNMENT <br /> CENTER, 345 6th Street, Bremerton, Washington, with Council President Jim McDonald presiding <br /> Council Members present were Nick Wofford, Eric Younger, Carol Arends, Faye Flemister, Greg <br /> Wheeler, Roy Runyon, and Leslie Daugs Council Member Adam Brockus was absent Also <br /> present were Interim City Clerk Shannon Conn, City Attorney Roger Lubovich and Legislative <br /> Assistant Lori Smith <br /> A COUNCIL BRIEFING was held to discuss General Council Business at 5 00 PM in the Council <br /> Conference Room At 5 30 PM the meeting moved to the Meeting Chambers <br /> The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Council Member Leslie Daugs followed by the invocation <br /> provided by Council Member Carol Arends <br /> MAYOR'S REPORT Mayor Patty Lent <br /> • Provided an update on the efforts of the Administration toward reaching the Council's Goals, <br /> • Proclaimed the Week of May 6 through 12, 2012 as "Drinking Water Week" and presented <br /> a proclamation to Kathleen Cahall City of Bremerton Water Resources Manager, <br /> • Proclaimed May 19, 2012 as "National Kids to Parks Day" and presented a proclamation to <br /> Wyn Birkenthal City of Bremerton Parks & Recreation Director, <br /> • Was pleased to report the "Women Today' event will be held at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds <br /> in the Kitsap Sun Pavilion on May 4 & 5 (please contact www womentodaykitsap com for more <br /> information), <br /> • Looked forward to the Kitsap Pumas 5K to benefit breast cancer research on Saturday, May <br /> 12, <br /> • The Mother's Day Brunch will again be held at Tucker's at Gold Mountain Golf Course form <br /> 9 00 AM to 3 00 PM (please contact (360) 415 -6895 for reservations or more information), <br /> • Encouraged attendance at the 4 Annual Bremerton Boat Show from May 18 to 20 (please <br /> contact www bremertonboatshow com for more information), <br /> • Proclaimed May 17, 2012 as "National Curves Day" as part of National Women's Health <br /> Week, <br /> • Participated in a campaign of local elected officials as part of the 10 anniversary celebration <br /> of Expansions Yoga (please contact (360) 990 -YOGA for more information), <br /> • Proclaimed the First Week of May 2012 as "Youth Week ", <br /> • Attended a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at The Cove at Bremerton, a short term rehabilitation <br /> facility located at 2701 Clare Avenue, and <br /> • Along with Council Member Greg Wheeler, took part in the "Dine out for Life' event on April 26 <br /> which was a fundraiser to support HIV research <br /> PUBLIC RECOGNITION <br /> Todd Best was pleased to report on the great turn -out at the recent clean -up event at Forest <br /> Ridge Park last weekend, and presented a picture collage to Wyn Birkenthal from the volunteers <br /> to show their appreciation for the efforts of Parks Department staff, announced that there will be a <br /> Flower Sale to benefit Amina Kocer- Bowman on Saturday beginning at 8 00 AM at the Parks <br /> Greenhouse located at 2800 Birch Street, and lastly expressed his concern that due to a lack of <br /> communication, no permit was provided so all of the debris that was cleaned up at the Washington <br /> Avenue site was not allowed to be dumped <br />
