DIGITAL RECORDING JU LU11 <br /> CITY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES z; <br /> IL <br /> June 1, 2011 <br /> The weekly meeting of the City Council of the City of Bremerton was called to order in the City Council <br /> Conference Room 603, of the NORM DICKS GOVERNMENT CENTER, 345 6 th Street, Bremerton, <br /> Washington, Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at 5 00 PM, with Council President Will Maupin presiding <br /> Council Members present were Nick Wofford, Carol Arends, Dianne Robinson, Greg Wheeler, Roy <br /> Runyon, Adam Brockus, Cecil McConnell, and Jim McDonald City Attorney Roger Lubovich and <br /> Legislative Assistant Lori Smith were present to provide staff support City Clerk Carol Etgen was <br /> absent <br /> A COUNCIL BRIEFING was then held to discuss General Council Business at 5 00 PM in the Council <br /> Conference Room At 5 30 PM the meeting moved to the Meeting Chambers <br /> The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Council Member Jim McDonald followed by the invocation <br /> provided by Chaplain Bill Martin of Abundant Life Foursquare Church <br /> MAYOR'S REPORT — Mayor Lent <br /> • Invited Fire Lieutenant Gary Bowman to present an Appreciation Award on behalf of the <br /> Bremerton Firefighters to Chaplain Bill Martin <br /> • Provided a Mayor's Appreciation Award to representatives from Lowe's for their donations and <br /> assistance in improving the Warren Avenue Playfield, and also thanked Parks Development <br /> Planner Colette Berna <br /> • Introduced Lillian Hunter Director & Principal of West Sound Technical School, who handed out <br /> informational brochures about the school, and invited the community to visit the school as well as <br /> to attend the graduation ceremony scheduled in the Chambers on Monday, June 6 at 8 00 PM, <br /> • Presented Mayor's Employee Appreciation Awards to Marie Vila and Doug McIntyre of <br /> Community Development for their work with the CDBG /HOME Grant Application Process, <br /> • Introduced Cody Youngblood Youth Director of the YMCA, to discuss activities available for <br /> youth in the community Mr. Youngblood provided an open invitation to Council Members to visit <br /> any future Teen Late Night event, <br /> • Announced the United Way Day of Caring will be held on June 22 and encouraged volunteers <br /> to help beautify Bremerton, <br /> • Proclaimed June 14, 2011 as "National Flag Day ", <br /> • Invited the community to participate in the upcoming Life Cycle fundraiser event for the Red <br /> Cross on Saturday, June 4, and <br /> • Was pleased to announce that a Washington State Student from the Washington State Science <br /> & Engineering Fair was the Grand Prize Winner at the National Fair held recently in Los Angeles <br /> PUBLIC RECOGNITION <br /> Raven Rayne of downtown Windermere Real Estate, announced that all of their Bremerton offices will <br /> be closed on June 17 in order to volunteer services to Bremerton Foodline <br /> Patti Peterson Bremerton Foodline Executive Director, presented a Certificate of Appreciation to <br /> Anna Williams with the National Letter Carriers Association for her efforts in organizing the local "Help <br /> Stamp out Hunger" event held on May 14 where 42,000 pounds of food were donated <br /> Michel Meacham expressed his frustration for the City's failure to follow through on a commitment to <br /> install a guard rail near his home at North Wycoff & 19 Street to prevent vehicles from crashing into his <br /> yard and too near his house after drivers repeatedly fail to make the turn <br /> Stewart Battle and Lewis Whilden reiterated the message provided in an earlier e-mail regarding a <br /> request for an "emergency resolution" to support HR1149 which would put pressure on the Federal <br /> Government to address current economic conditions and asked to meet with Council Members following <br /> the meeting tonight <br />
