MAY 18 2011 <br /> DIGITAL RECORDING <br /> CITY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES Mft <br /> May 4, 2011 ARoyM <br /> The weekly meeting of the City Council of the City of Bremerton was called to order in the City Council <br /> Conference Room 603, of the NORM DICKs GOVERNMENT CENTER, 345 6` Street, Bremerton, <br /> Washington, Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at 5 00 PM, with Council President Will Maupin presiding <br /> Council Members present were Nick Wofford, Carol Arends, Dianne Robinson, Greg Wheeler, Roy <br /> Runyon, Adam Brockus, Cecil McConnell, and Jim McDonald Legislative Assistant Lori Smith was <br /> present to provide staff support <br /> A COUNCIL BRIEFING was then held to discuss General Council Business at 5 00 PM in the Council <br /> Conference Room At 5 30 PM the meeting moved to the Meeting Chambers <br /> The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Council Member Jim McDonald followed by the invocation <br /> provided by Reverend Debbie Little of First Christian Church <br /> MAYOR'S REPORT — Mayor Lent <br /> • Proclaimed Saturday, May 21, 2011 as "National Kids to Parks Day" and provided the <br /> proclamation to Jeff Elevado from the City's Parks & Recreation Department, <br /> • Reported on the very successful YMCA Healthy Kid's Day, <br /> • Announced that the Bremerton Farmers Market's Opening Day will be tomorrow, and then held <br /> every Thursday from 4 00 to 7 00 PM until October 13 at Evergreen Park, <br /> • Proclaimed Saturday, May 14, 2011 as "Freedom Fund Day" [later in the meeting the <br /> proclamation was provided to Alyce Eagans of the Bremerton Branch of the NAACP, Unit 1134, <br /> who announced that tickets are still available for the upcoming Freed Fund Banquet], <br /> • Announced the West Sound Spring Tea & Fashion Show will be held on Saturday, May 7 from <br /> 1 00 to 3 00 PM at the Kitsap Conference Center, <br /> • Proclaimed the Week of May 1 to 7, 2011 as "City Clerks Week" and provided the <br /> proclamation to Bremerton City Clerk Carol Etqen <br /> • Presented an Mayor's Employee Appreciation Award to Theresa Ewing Municipal Court <br /> Administrator, and thanked her for her service to the City as Municipal Court Manager and <br /> wished her well in her new position with the City of Tacoma, <br /> • Presented a Mayor's Appreciation Award to members of the Kitsap Poggie Club and discussed <br /> the recent Poggie Club Kids Fishing Day that was attended by over 500 kids Thanks were also <br /> provided to City Forestry Manager Bill McKinney for his assistance in the annual event, <br /> • Enjoyed her time at View Ridge Elementary School and participating with the students in their <br /> financial literacy program, <br /> • Proclaimed the Week of May 15 to 21, 2001 as "Public Works Week" and provided the <br /> proclamation to Vincent Akhimie who accepted on behalf of the Public Works staff, <br /> • Invited the community to the first home game for the Puma's Soccer Club on Sunday, May 8, <br /> • Proclaimed the Week of May ,1 to 7, 2011 as "Youth Week" and noted that she will be providing <br /> the proclamation to members of Elks Lodge No 1181, <br /> • Invited Jerry McDonald who discussed the "Discover Bremerton" tour for hotel concierges from <br /> Seattle, and <br /> • Proclaimed Tuesday, May 17, 2011 as "Norwegian Constitution Day ", and briefly discussed <br /> the history of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church <br /> PUBLIC RECOGNITION <br /> Kimberly Faulkner President of the Bremerton Food Line, discussed the U S Postal Service food drive <br /> taking place on Saturday, May 14, and encouraged the public to donate items for local families in need <br /> Katrina Folkerson Bremerton Tennis & Swim Club, invited the public to the Zumba & Fiesta Party <br /> tomorrow at the club, and was excited to announce the club would be an exhibitor and also hosting a <br /> booth over the weekend at the Women's Today Show at the Kitsap Pavilion <br /> 1 <br /> i <br />
