DIGITAL RECORDING <br /> CITY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES <br /> Wednesday, January 18, 2017 <br /> The weekly meeting of the City Council of the City of Bremerton was called to order <br /> Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at 5:00 PM in Council Conference Room 603 of the NORM <br /> DICKS GOVERNMENT CENTER, 345 6th Street, Bremerton, Washington, with 2017 Council Vice- <br /> President Jerry McDonald presiding. Council Members present were Richard Huddy, Dino <br /> Davis, Greg Wheeler, Leslie Daugs, and Pat Sullivan. Council President Eric Younger was <br /> absent. Also present were City Attorney Roger Lubovich; City Clerk Shannon Corin; Legislative <br /> Assistant Lori Smith; and Kevin Matthew, Information Services Manager. <br /> A COUNCIL BRIEFING was held to discuss General Council Business at 5:00 PM in the Council <br /> Conference Room. At 5:30 PM the meeting moved to the Meeting Chambers. <br /> The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Council Member Pat Sullivan followed by the invocation <br /> provided by Pastor Kevin Clancey of the Firehouse Church. <br /> BREMERTON POLICE DEPARTMENT CEREMONY <br /> • Municipal Court Judge James Doctor was brought forward to administer the Oath of <br /> Office to swear in new Police Officer Allan McComas <br /> • Police Chief Steven Strachan presented 25-year Anniversary Awards to Police <br /> Sergeant Rich Cronk and Police Officer James "J.D." Miller <br /> MAYOR'S REPORT— Mayor Patty Lent... <br /> • Brought forward Katie Eilers, Kitsap Health District; and Robin O'Grady, Kitsap <br /> Connect Project to provide an update on services being offered to homeless and <br /> vulnerable individuals; <br /> • Informed the public that the Winter Emergency Shelter at the Salvation Army at 832 6th <br /> Street is open daily through March 31 with check-in from 7:00 to 9:00 PM; <br /> • Encouraged attendance at an Enl!ghten Kitsap Community Forum on Friday, January 20 <br /> from 6:00 to 8:30 PM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with special guest Carol Williams; <br /> • Mentioned an arborist working with the City's Tree Committee has submitted a report <br /> that will be presented to the Council at their next Study Session because it designates 5 <br /> trees for removal on 4th Street due to safety concerns; <br /> • Welcomed volunteers for the 2017 Point in Time Count to be held January 25 to 26; <br /> • Announced a fundraiser for the Kennedy Family who lost their home in a fire will be on <br /> January 28 from 12:00 to 4:00 PM at the Bremerton VFW; and <br /> • With sadness, held a moment of silence in memory of City Fire Fighter/Paramedic <br /> James Hendryx who recently passed. <br /> POLICE DEPARTMENT BRIEFING <br /> Police Chief Steven Strachan used a Power Point presentation to highlight trends, statistics, <br /> and police activity for the Months of December through early January. Council Member Daugs <br /> asked questions, with responses provided by Chief Strachan... <br /> PUBLIC RECOGNITION <br /> Gene Hart asked 1) have all patrol officers received mental health field training; 2) If yes, what <br /> date was the training completed; and 3) If the training has not been completed, when will it be <br /> scheduled. <br />
