Dear Mr. Krueger:
The architectural, mechanical and electrical drawins dated April 30, 1984,
revised electrical drawings E-2, E-3, E-7 and E-8 printed May 21, 1984 and
kitchen drawing dated April 26, 1984 and plan of elevator smoke tight doors
received June 7, 1984 have been reviewed and are approved for construction
subject to submission and approval of answers to the following review.
Approval is also subject to applicable code and field inspections.
The review has been completed pursuant to WAC 248-16 Boarding Home Codified
Rules, Regulations, and Standards adopted by the Washington State Board of
Health as amended to date. It does not include evaluation for state
electrical requirements as reviewed by Department of Labor and Industries in
accordance with WAC 296-46-140.
The review findings are as follows:

The hot and cold water faucet for can washing is shown on the plan but
there also needs to be a floor drain connected to the sanitary sewer in
the area where cans are to be washed. WAC 248-84-045, WAC 248-16-090( 1)
and WAC 248-16-080.
STATE FIRE MARSHAL'S REVIEW

1. Any carpeting shall be provided in accordance with Information Sheet A-
4 enclosed.
2. Shop drawings of automatic sprinkler system shall be submitted for
review and approval prior to installation. Installation shall be on a
light hazard schedule except service and storage areas which shall be
ordinary hazard. Sprinkler heads shall be rated at 1350 F. Sprinklers
having a higher temperature rating may be used in areas where elevated
temperatures are anticipated. Kitchen hoods and ducts shall be
protected by automatic sprinklers. All electrical and telephone rooms
and closets shall be sprinklered~ (Automatic on-off type sprinklers
are recommended.) Installation shall be in accordance with 1976 NFPA
Standard 13.
3. Shop drawings of the automatic smoke detection and fire alarm system
shall be submitted for review and approval prior to installation.
Warning signals shall be both visual and audible. LANSI A1l7.1-
1961(R1971 Standard)] Manual fire alarm devices shall be mounted not
more than 54 inches above the finished floor. Automatic smoke detection
shall be provi ded in any areas where permi ss i on is granted to omit
sprinkler protection. Smoke detection is required in all corridors and
stair enclosures. The decibel reading in the most remote area shall not
be less than 60 and at least 15 above the normal ambient noise level.
All equipment shall be Underwriters Laboratories listed and installed
in accordance with NFPA Standard 72A-1979.

A set of stamped lIapproved S/211 (subject to) documents is being returned for
use at the job site. These documents are to remain on file and available, in
bound and good condition, for inspection at the job site office at all times
until the project is completed and approved. It is recommended that these

Dear Mr. Delph:
After reviewing the drawings for the above project, we hold the
professional opinion that the building, as designed, meets the
intent of the Uniform Building Code, 1982 edition, and the appli-
cable NFPA code provisions.
In particular, we are of the opinion that the intent of Sec. 505
(e) area separation provisions have been met in a structurally
sound, safe and prudent manner.
This opinion is further supported by the favorable review and
approval of the area separation provisions by the deputy state
fire marshal, Pete Anderson.
In summary, we believe that the building is structurally sound
and safe within generally accepted limits and standards.

We received this date a letter from Mr. Dieterich and Mr. Peterson
cohfirming that in their professional opinions the intent of the Building
Code has been met with regard to the two hour separation wall.
This answers our questions regarding the offset of this wall and its
integrity; however, the medicine cabinet penetrations must be closed and plans
submitted for all cabinets that penetrate occupancy separations.
