Our records show that you have not requested a building inspection since 5/26/89, when we performed a plumbing inspection. Inspection requests are the only method we have of determining if a project is on-going or has stopped. Since you state that you are still working on your remodel, the permit will continue to be active. If you do not request another inspection within the next 5 months, we will again request that you inform us of the status of the project. If you have any questions, feel free to call me at 478-5281. The installation must conform with local gas company regula- tions, national and local electrical codes, local building, plumb- ing or, in the absence of local codes, with the latest National Fuel Gas Code ANSI Standard Z223.1-1984. INSPECTION AND HANDLING Material in this shipment has been inspected at the factory and released to transportation agency without known damage. Inspect exterior of carton for evidence of rough handling in shipment. Unpack carefully after moving equipment to approximate location. If damage to contents is found, report damage immediately to delivering agency. ORDERING PARTS When ordering shortages or damaged parts, or when ordering repair parts, give the complete unit model and serial number as stamped on the unit nameplate. Order all parts through your local contractor. INSTALLATION, CLEARANCES AND SUPPORT UPFLOW models are A.G.A. design certified for installation on combustible floors and for closet installation. For installation on combustible flooring, the furnace shall not be installed directly on carpeting, tile, or other combustible material other than wood flooring. DOWNFLOW (counterflow) models are A.G.A. design certified for installation on noncombustible floors and for closet installa- tion. For installation on combustible floor use combustible floor subbase. Combustible floor subbase must also be used when cooling coil and jacket are applied in installation on combusti- ble, floor. The following lists minimum permissible clearances to com- bustible material, for all models of recuperative gas furnaces. TOP OF PLENUM I" ACCESSIBILITY CLEARANCES MUST TAKE PRECE- DENCE OVER FIRE PROTECTION CLEARANCES. Minimum accessibility clearances are as follows: 1. 24 inches at side where access is required for servicing and cleaning. r' 2. 18 inches at a side where passage is required to another side . '., . requiring servicing or cleaning, or at a side requiring inspection or replacement of the flue connector. dwg. no. 21 X137235 P06 3. In utility room installations, the door shall be wide enough to allow the largest furnace part to enter or to permit the replacement of another appliance, such as a gas water heater. 4. Where external filter racks are used, clearance must be provided for removal of filters. The furnace must be installed on a solid surface and must be level front-to-back and side-to-side. If this furnace is installed in an attic or other insulated space it must be kept free and clear of all insulating materials as some insulating materials are combustible. If additional insulation is added after the furnace is installed, the area around the furnace must be inspected to insure it is free and clear of insulation. AIR FOR COMBUSTION AND VENTILATION OUTDOOR AIR IS RECOMMENDED. When installing the BLU-K and BLD-K gas furnace, it is recommended to use the outdoor combustion air option. The use of indoor air for most applications is acceptable, unless there is the presence of corrosive chemicals or contamination in the air supply. Certain types of installations will require the use of outdoor air for combustion. For further information regard- ing the combustion air option, refer to Installer's Guide (Pub. No. 18-CHI5Dl), Venting and Condensate Dmin Instructions for these Gas Furnaces. When the furnace is installed with the indoor air option, the following guidelines must be followed: 1. If the furnace is installed in a confined space, the necessary combustion air must come from the outdoors by way of attic, crawl space, air duct, or direct opening. 2. There must be no exposure to the corrosive chemicals and substances identified in the Venting and Condensate Drain Installer's Guide. 3. All provisions for indoor combustion air must meet the requirements for combustion air supply indicated in the National Fuel Gas Code, ANSI Z223.1-1984, section 5.3, and/ or any applicable local codes. AIR FOR COMBUSTION AND VENTILATION: (Extracted from National Fuel Gas Code ANSI Z223.1-1984) 5.3 AIR FOR COMBUSTION AND VENTILATION 5.3.1 GENERAL a. The provisions of 5.3 apply to gas utilization equipment installed in buildings and which require air for combustion, ventilation and dilution of flue gases from within the building. They do not apply to (1) direct vent equipment Which is con- structed and installed so that all air for combustion is obtained from the outside atmosphere and all flue gases are discharged to the outside atmosphere, or (2) enclosed furnaces which incorporate an integral total enclosure and use only outside air for combustion and dilution of flue gases. b. Equipment shall be installed in a location in which the facilities for ventilation permit satisfactory combustion of gas, proper venting and the maintenance of ambient temperature at safe limits under normal conditions of use. Equipment shall be located so as not to interfere with proper circulation of air. When normal infiltration does not provide the necessary air, outside air shall be introduced. page 3
