As promised, here is the email of our inspection today. The following corrections were noted as a result of the building inspection on 4/16114 v 1) Panic hardware is required for the second exit because the occupant load is more than 4 persons in the bining Room. The main entrance door is a standard storefront door and it may remain because it is the main entry and is allowed to have a deadbolt. 2) The deadbolt on the second door has to be removed as the main entry is the only door allowed to have a deadbolt. 3) An outlet is missing a cover in the Storage Room, V 4) All of the sinks in the kitchen and food preparation areas except the hand wash sinks are required to have indirect drains with a 1" air gap. We discussed the air gap and the slope of the drain to the floor sinks. 5) The relief valve drain on the hot water drain cannot drain to the f loor. We discussed extending the drain to within 6" of the pan bottom beneath the hot water tank and draining the pan to the floor sink. Other options include draining the valve to the outside or -to the floor drain. ` 6) The men's restroom has a water hammer on the hot water that is so bad the water quits running. A water hammer causes the pipes to shake and the pipes can break when the water hammer is bad enough. A licensed plumber can install a water arrestor or possibly f Ind the cause of the problem and provide a solution, 7) The fire suppression system has not been inspected and approved by the Fire Marshal's Office. I have copied the Fire Marshal on this email and the fire suppression contractor. can call him at 473-5386. The permit is BF14 00056. I have rescheduled an inspection for your business tomorrow. There- fore, provisions for knee and toe clearances under elements cannot overlap the door maneuvering clearances [see Com- mentary Figure C404.2.3(e)]. Maneuvering clearances at doors permit the user approach and passage. The standard does not require maneuvering clearances that would permit the user to '' make a turn and pull or push the door closed after passing through the doorway. If such maneuvering space is pro- ": vided near, but not adjacent to, the door, then the user must make a 180-degree (3 rad) turn where space is provided, retrace the path, close the door and move away from the door backward. Consideration should be given to provid- ing ufiicient maneuvering space for the closing and open- . ing of, as well as approach to and retreat from, doors. 404.2.3.1 Floor Surface. Floor surface within the maneuvering clearances shall have a slope not steeper than 1:48 and shall comply with Section 302. • A duped surface would make it difficult for a person using a wheelchair or a walking aid to remain stationary while at the same time trying to unlatch and open a door. Thus, the slope of these floor surfaces is limited to the same slope allowed for the cross slope of accessible routes in general. The slope in any direction shall not be steeper than 1:48. This should be adequate for drainage for door landings exposed to weather. ing clearances are established (see commentary Section 404.2.3). FIGURE 404.2.3.2(a). See page 4-13. ❖ The front approach to the pull side of a door requires an 18-inch (455 mm) clear space adjacent to the latch side of the door. This space may be used to position a wheelchair, crutches or other walking aid to gain the leverage neces- sary to open the door. This space also enables the user to be outside the swing of the door as it begins to open. fly pulling at an angle to the axis of the wheelchair without the required clearances, there is a possibility of interference between the edge of the door and the footrest on the wheel- chair, which would render the door inaccessible to the per- son using a wheelchair. The dimension of 60 inches (1525 mm) perpendicular to the door accommodates the wheelchair in the clear floor space dimension of 48 inches (1220 mm) at an angle [see Figure 404.2.3.2(a)]. FIGURE 404.2.3.2 (b). See page 4-13. ❖ The front approach to the push side of a door that has a latch and closer requires a smaller clear space to the side because it is easier to push and follow than to pull and maneuver through the opening. For the same reason, the dimension perpendicular needs to be only 48 inches (1220 mm) instead of 60 inches (1525 mm) because the smaller dimension is the same as found in Section 305. The direction of the arrow is the antici- pated approach toward the door. It is important to pay attention to notes for the table (indicated as asterisks in the figures).
