Race Equity Advisory Committee Virtual Meeting Minutes
Race Equity Advisory Committee Members In attendance: Council Members Leslie Daugs
(Chair); Lori Wheat (Vice-Chair); and Michael Goodnow (arrived 5:20 PM); and Citizen Members
Cely Quisano; Faye Flemister; Airen Lydick; Glenna Matteson; Erin Burrows; Sarah Van Gelder
(arrived 5:45 PM); and Darryl Riley (arrived 6:05 PM). Also present Legislative/Auditor Assistant
Christine Grenier.
1. Meeting was convened at 5:04 PM via “Zoom”.
2. General Business
There was discussion on whether or not to allow public comment during meetings. A
possibility would be to structure part of the meeting (with a time limit) or guests could
request time to speak. Leslie then asked if any members of the public wished to
comment tonight. There were no comments from the public…
For the next meeting, committee members would consider the following: mission
statement and purpose; a presentation on IHEHR & Kitsap SURJ “Threats to a
Welcoming Kitsap” Report; Kitsap County demographics; definitions; what race equity
means to me (i.e. sharing a story, poem, song, “Ted Talk”, news article); whether or not
to elect a community member as a Vice-Chair or Co-Chair; and whether to hold

meetings on 2 Thursdays after the holidays.
3. The next meeting will be held on Thursday, November 19 beginning at 6:00 PM; and to
“Save the Date” for the following meeting on Thursday, December 10.
4. Meeting was adjourned at 6:37 PM.
