6:00 PM
Race Equity Advisory Committee Virtual Meeting Minutes
Race Equity Advisory Committee Members In attendance: Council Members Leslie Daugs
(Chair); Lori Wheat (Vice-Chair); and Michael Goodnow; and Citizen Members Cely Quisano;
Faye Flemister; Airen Lydick; Glenna Matteson; Erin Burrows; Sarah Van Gelder; and Darryl
Riley. Also present Legislative/Auditor Assistant Christine Grenier.
1. Meeting was convened at 6:00 PM via “Zoom”.
2. General Business
The committee recognized impacts made on tribal land; and
Leslie asked if any members of the public wished to comment tonight. Comments from
the public were provided by Don Manning.
3. Homework Discussion
Committee Members shared what “race equity means to me”.
4/5. Presentation & Discussion
A presentation on the IHEHR & Kitsap SURJ “Threats to a Welcoming Kitsap” Report
was provided by Chuck Tanner and Airen Lydick; followed by a discussion.
6. Draft Mission & Vision Statement
The committee discussed a Mission and Vision Statement drafted by Faye. It was agreed
that there would continued discussion at the next meeting.
7. Kitsap County Demographics
There was discussion on Kitsap County demographics provided by the Kitsap County
Auditor’s office. Areas to consider included: possible gain/loss of diversity over past 10
years; homeowner to renter ratio; and what analysis is needed for City Policies.
8. Old Business
The committee wished to add the position of Community Co-Chair. Airen nominated
Faye; and Cely seconded motion. Motion carried unanimously.
9. Public Comment
Leslie asked if there was any final public comment. There were no public comments.
10. Next Meeting
For the next meeting(s), committee members would consider the following: mission
statement and purpose; police policies; definitions; and invite representatives of Police
and Communities Together (P.A.C.T.) including Pastor Richmond Johnson to join the
conversation to share their knowledge and to increase REAC’s understanding of
P.A.C.T.’s efforts; and the next meeting will be held on Thursday, December 10.
