Race Equity Advisory Committee Virtual Meeting Minutes
Race Equity Advisory Committee Members In attendance: Council Member (Chair) Leslie
Daugs, Council Member Lori Wheat (Vice-Chair), and Council Member Michael Goodnow.
Also present were Dave Sorenson, IT Manager and Legislative/Auditor Assistant Christine
Grenier.
1. Meeting was convened at 3:00 PM via “Zoom”.
2. Officer Elections
(Goodnow/Wheat) Move to nominate Leslie Daugs as Chair. Motion carried
unanimously.
(Goodnow/Daugs) Move to nominate Lori Wheat as Vice-Chair. Motion carried
unanimously.
There was consensus that following future appointments, a community member
could also serve as Co-Chair or Co-Vice Chair.
3. General Business and Discussion
2 to 3 individuals could be selected in the first round of interviews, then the
remaining positions could be appointed later. The actual process of appointing
could include the community members or just the Council Members.
It was also discussed that up to 3 positions could hold 1-year terms and the
remaining 4 positions could hold 2-year terms. This would allow staggering and
either re-appointment or turn over with opportunities for interested, qualified
volunteers.
In preparation for the interviews, questions would need to be finalized.
Committee members believed that 10-15 minutes would be enough, given the
information that would be available in the applications.
To help the committee reach a decision on how to proceed on scheduling the
interviews and future meetings, Chair Daugs opened up the meeting for public
comment…
Comments from the public were provided by JD Sweet; Tracy Flood; Susan
Brooks-Young; Airen Lydick; Robin Carson; and Faye Flemister.
The deadline for the first round of applications would be Friday, July 31; and if
more applicants are needed to fill all 7 positions, then the process would be
opened up again.
Interviews would be scheduled with flexibility on times and attempting to avoid
conflicts with other organizations meetings or events.
The next meeting is tentatively scheduled on Tuesday, August 11 at 5:00 PM.
