SUMMARY:The action before the Council is to pass an ordinance amending BMC Chapter 18.02 to
adopt the 2021 editions of the International Fire Code, as published by the International Code
Council (ICC) and amended by the Washington State Building Code Council (WSBCC).
The ordinance makes minor housekeeping amendments for proper references in the BMC. It is
anticipated that the WSBCC codes will become effective on March 15, 2024, and our ordinance
indicates that we will implement the new codes on the date that the State implements.
ATTACHMENTS:Ordinance No. 5491
FISCAL IMPACTS(Include Budgeted Amount):No City fiscal impacts. The City is required to
follow the fire codes as adopted and amended by WSBCC. The updates to the fire codes will
increase the cost of construction for builders.
