SUMMARY:The court is requesting to create an extra helpOn-Call Bailiff position to assist with
jury trials. Melinda Monroe, Contracts Administrator,reached out to Kitsap County in an attempt to
enter into an-call positions. Kitsap
County provides support to Bremerton Municipal Court for jurors when we have trials. Below are
basic job description qualifications details that Kitsap County uses:
Qualifications
Two years experience working with the public in customer service, office environment, legal
or in the court environment is required
Authorize and complete a criminal background check through law enforcement
Responsibilities
This on-call position is responsible for assisting in the orderly and expeditious dispatch of
court business by maintaining custody of and coordinating the movement of individual trial
jury pools
Assist judge in maintaining order and decorum in the courtroom; keep order and maintain
court and jury facilities
Prepare, refresh and clean-up jury refreshments; refresh courtroom water pitchers and
counsel table supplies; and, order and arrange for jury lunches
Assist the court and counsel with impaneling the jury; escorts jury to and from the courtroom;
provide personal services to jurors (makes phone calls) during jury deliberations; transmit
instructions and exhibits from court to jurors; remain outside jury room until a verdict is
reached
Coordinate jail transports in courthouse with jail personnel
Provide regular jury orientation presentations for each new jury panel, ranging in size from 35
to 100 potential jurors at any given time; communication juror expectations, court rules and
instructive guidelines
ATTACHMENTS:
FISCAL IMPACTS(Include Budgeted Amount): There will be minimal fiscal impact to the courts
budget. The court has had a couple vacant positions and these savings will help cover the extra hire
funding. Hourly rate range is $15.87to $20.84 recommended.
