School Project
SUMMARY:
The City has been offered aSafe Routes to School(SRTS) Grant through the Washington State
Department ofTransportation(WSDOT)to perform preliminary engineering, acquire right of way, and
construct improvementsfor the project. The project improvements includesidewalk, shared-use
paths, ADA curb ramps, rectangular rapid flashing beaconcrosswalks, speed feedback signs,
pedestrian lighting, bicycle lanes, and traffic calming considerations at identified locations in the
vicinity of View Ridge Elementary. Thegrant amount is $4,155,000 and willrequire a minimum City
match of $645,000for a total amount of $4,800,000. Additional work not included in the grant is
reconstruction of Almira Drive-this work is estimated at$1,000,000. The offered grant will be in
WSDOT Standard Forms, with their standard terms and conditions.The project is scheduled for
design and right of way acquisition from 2023-2025 and construction in 2026.

FISCAL IMPACTS(Include Budgeted Amount):The project is included in the proposed 2023
budget. The total project cost is estimatedat $5,800,000, with $5,050,000 in the Transportation
Capital Fund, and $750,000 in the Stormwater Capital Fund.
