During our meeting there were three items relating to the construction techniques utilized in the Covered Driving Range that you requested clarification from me. These items are: Substitution of staples for nails in the wall sheathing; Use of expansion bolts for anchor bolts; Depth offooting less than 12" below grade. Below are my comments. . " " 1. Staple V s. Nails. Staples (16 gage by 1 3/4" leg) may be substituted for 3d nails with the following exceptions: Staples are installed at 3" ole at panel edges and 6" ole at intermediate studs. All staples shall be installed with the crowns of the staple parallel to the long dimension of the framing member. 2. Where anchor bolts were not installed when the slab was cast the use of expansion bolts is permitted. 3. The bottom of the thickened slab perimeter foundation is approximately 6" below finished grade. The UBC requirements for a one story structure is the bottom of the footing to be 12" below finished grade. In this circumstance, having the footing only 6" below grade will not impact the structural integrity of the structure do to the following reasons: The bearing pressure from the roof loads is very low and, the soil condition at this site is very sandy and well draining.
