SUMMARY: Staff recommend the City pursue funding from the Surface Transportation Program for
preservation of 6th Street between Naval and Warren Avenues in the current Countywide grant
competition. The improvements would include design and construction of an overlay, new curb
ramps and a new traffic signal at the intersection of 6th Street and Veneta Avenue. The STP program
funds projects at a maximum of 86.5% with a minimum match of $13.5%. The estimated cost of this
project is $2,170,000, and staff intend to request $1,877,050 in grant funds, requiring the City commit
to providing matching funds of $292,950. In addition, the STP Program rules state that expending
STP grant funds for any phase of a project, including design, commits the recipient to constructing all
phases of the project within 10-years of receipt of the grant funds. For this grant cycle, KRCC has
required applicants to include acknowledgment of these requirements from the governing body of the
City with the grant applications.
