Currently, the culvert inhibits salmon and trout passage during migration, even after a 1990's installation of weir plates (baffles) to try to assist the process. This project will evaluate options to eliminate the current barrier, and develop a preliminary design. The potential fish barrier removal would open 1,082 square meters of spawning area, and 104,170 square meters of rearing area for coho, chum, steelhead, and cutthroat trout. Options to evaluate are: 1)three sided box culvert, 2) arched concrete culvert, and 3) bridge deck and abutments. Construction methods to be evaluated are: 1) open cut excavation, 2) pipe bursting, and 3) micro tunneling. The Salmon Recovery Funding Board Manual 18 contains the standards for which the deliverables for this scope of work are based. Options to evaluate are: 1) three sided box culvert, 2) arched concrete culvert, and 3) bridge deck and abutments. Construction methods to be evaluated are: 1) open cut excavation, 2) pipe bursting, and 3) micro tunneling.
