SUMMARY: This request is to add a Permit Technician to the Department of Public Works and
Utilities to address an increase in permit activity and development review. The position is necessary
due to workload, and for timely delivery of permit related activities.
ATTACHMENTS: 1) Council Summary
FISCAL IMPACTS (Include Budgeted Amount): The position would be budgeted at $99,100
annually (Grade 11 Step G assumed); 2018 budget is $49,550 with a projected July 1, 2018 start
date. No budget adjustment is required for 2018 due to an existing vacancy within the Department.

RECOMMENDED MOTION:
Move to authorize the addition of an Engineering Permit Technician to the Department of Public
Works and Utilities personnel, and direct the Human Resources Department to ensure that the
position is appropriately placed within the Teamsters Pay Grades.
