HomeMy WebLinkAbout11/01/2017 6IAGENDA BILL CITY OF,BREMERTON .61 CITY COUNCIL SUBJECT: Acceptance of 2018 -2019 Office of Public Defense Grant Study Session Date: COUNCIL MEETING Date: Department: Presenter: October 25, 2017 November 1, 2017 Municipal Court Dawn Williams Phone: (360) 473-5242 SUMMARY: The Bremerton Municipal Court applied to the Office of Public Defense for a grant and was awarded a grant in the amount of $32,000.00 for a 2 year cycle. $16,000 will be sent in January 2018 for use in 2018 and another check will be mailed in January 2019 for use in 2019. This money is intended to be used for improvements including continuing to adjust pay compensation for contracted attorneys, adding attorneys to reduce public defense caseloads and complying with the new Supreme Court Public Defense Standards. ATTACHMENTS: Letter of Acknowledgment and Face Sheet FISCAL IMPACTS (Include Budgeted Amount): The OPD grant is a revenue source for $32,000 ($16,000 in 2018 and $16,000 in 2019) to be used directly for Public Defense costs in the City of Bremerton Municipal Court. These monies will be fully expended each year to assist with public defense. There are no matching funds required.
