Installations with the frame and sash removed require taking
out all of the old windrow components down to the rough open-

(2 x 4 and 2 x 6 wood rough framing), concrete masonry
(concrete block or poured concrete rough opening) and the stud
wall rough framing.
Installations into the rough framing can be done from the exterior

For Bryn Mawr ll windows: Pre -drill installation hales in the
center of the interior sash track in the frame, see drawings
above; use a 1/8" to 3/8" step drill.
For Bryn Mawr 11 slider frames with a weep pocket in the sash
track: Do not need to be counter -bored with a step drill. Drill
1/8" pilot holes with a standard drill bit for fastening. Locate
these installation holes approximately 6" from each corner and
spaced evenly within 14".
For Bryn Mawr 11 slider windows: Remove the sash(es) and
screens from the frame.
5. Prior to final installation of window frame, apply a thin bead of
sealant to the remaining exposed surface of the interior trim
extension jamb or drywall return where the surface of the win-
dow will make contact with it, see drawing A.
6. Place the window frame in the opening. Lower the window
onto the sill and center it; place the interior lower edge of the
sill tight against the window stool. Firmly press the window
frame into the sealant.
CAUTION: Do not fasten the replacement window frame through the
sill. This will reduce the performance of the window, as it is a poten-
tial source of water leakage.
7. Shims are required at all fastening points. Using the pre -drilled
holes in the frame interior sash track, fasten one of the upper
corners of the jamb to the window framing. Hold the window
tightly against the stop while fastening.
8. After the window frame has been temporarily secured in the
upper corner, check the window jambs for plumb and the sill
for level. Check the jambs to assure that they are equally
straight. Do not twist the window frame in the opening. Check it
for square using a diagonal measurement from the top corners
to the opposite bottom corner. Diagonal measurements must
be within 1/a" of each other. Make adjustments if necessary and
verify measurements.
For Bryn Mawr 11 slider windows: Replace the sash(es) into the
frame. 1
9. Close the sash or sashes against the frame, leaving a small gap,
and check the reveal between the sash and frame, see drawing
B. Adjust the frame until the reveal is even along the entire open-
ing. If necessary, level the sill using a continuous shim.
Frame/Sash Reveal NOTE. The sill of the rough opening must be in a continu-
ous level condition for proper support the entire length 1 of
the vinyl window sill. If the rough opening sill is not level,
the sill plate itself should be leveled or a continuous shim
may be used.

10. Shim at all fastening points. Secure the frame jarnbs by plac-
ing a minimum of 3 screws through 1/8" pre -drilled holes in
the jambs. Use #8, corrosion resistant type round or pan head
screws.
Fasteners must penetrate the rough framing by a minimum of
1 ". Place fasteners at the upper and lower jamb ends (within
6" of sill and head) and in a continuous manner every 14". Do
not over -tighten fasteners.
For fixed windows: Fasteners must be placed every 14".
For slider windows: Fasten at the meeting stiles.
For hung windows: Fasten at the meeting rails.
IMPORTANT. Especially for hung and casement style windows,
the jambs must be installed straight and not bowed. The vertical
reveal between the sides of the sash(es) must be even between the
frame jambs and the sash(es) the entire length from top to bottom.
If the frame is installed bowed, it will impede the movement of the
sash(es).
For Bryn Mawr 11 double -hung windows: Installation screw
heads must be flush with balance pocket wall for clearance of
balance mechanism of hung windows.
11. Again check that the jambs are straight and the window is
square and level in the opening. Shim and fasten at the head.
Do not bow the frame.
12. Cover the installation holes with high-performance sealant and
tap in the installation hole covers, see drawing A.
This step is not necessary for Bryn Mawr II with a weep pock-
et in the sash track.
13. Insulate the gap around the window between the replacement
window frame and the existing opening.
CAUTION: To insulate, pre-cut strips of fiber glass insulation are.
recommended. If using spray -in type foam insulation, use only
non -expanding professional grade with a trigger spray gun. Do not
over pack; this will cause the frame to distort causing operating and
performance problems.
For Bryn Mawr 11 double -hung windows: Remove shipping clips.
14. Apply a corner bead of sealant around the entire replacement
window frame where it meets the interior extension jamb or
drywall return; tool the bead smooth.
For more information on interior and exterior trimming out, refer to

Sealant Frame
With frame and stash removed - concrete masonry
or masonry veneer
Determine first if the wall type is concrete masonry or masonry
veneer. If the wall is concrete masonry, a few extra steps must be
taken in addition to the ,general rough framing type installation.
1. With the frame and sash of the old window removed, there
should be an exposed wood stud frame around the rough
opening to which the old window was fastened, drawing A.
Examine the wood stud frame for damage, cracking, moisture
damage, dry rot, etc. If there is damage to the framing, com-
pletely remove it and replace it with new stud framing.
2. If the existing wood stud framing is not damaged, it can be
used to install the replacement window. Place a bead of
masonry sealant to the exterior perimeter of the stud framing
where it meets the concrete. Be sure that there is a good seal.
3. If the wood stud frame around the rough opening is
damaged, completely remove it. If there is no wood stud
frame surrounding the old window, then one must be
installed. Remove all of the debris on the surface of the
concrete masonry rough opening and install a new wood
stud frame around the perimeter of the rough opening. A
wood stud frame is usually 2" x 4" construction (drawing B),
but the width dimension is up to the installer. Be sure the
width dimension is thick enough for the attachment of the
replacement window fasteners.
4. The new wood stud framing must be sealed against the
concrete masonry rough opening using masonry adhesive
sealant. Place a generous bead of masonry adhesive sealant
around the perimeter of the concrete rough opening where the
wood framing will be seated.
5. Place the wood framing into the opening over the adhesive
sealant. Seat the wood framing into the adhesive sealant,
making sure of a good seal.
6. Fasten the wood framing to the concrete masonry with ram
set nails or concrete masonry screws long enough to pene-
trate the concrete by a minimum of 1 ", drawing B.
7. Place a bead of masonry sealant to the exterior perimeter of
the stud framing where it meets the concrete. Be sure that
there is a good seal.
8. The replacement window is ready for installation. Follow
instructions for your window style installation into a rough
opening with, the frame and sash removed as described in the
previous section.
