Potential Surplus Land
October 16, 2015 Mayor Patty Lent Members of the City Council The City owns 29 parcels of land containing approximately 143 acres which may not be needed for city operations. Attached is a list of these parcels of land. The list is provided for informational purposes and as a starting point for discussion. These parcels have not been formally reviewed by the city administration. Maps of these parcels are also attached. The attached list includes the acreage of each parcel, which was obtained from the Kitsap County parcel search website. However, the County no longer lists a value for tax exempt municipal land. The tax parcel identification number is provided for reference. The fund source and department information on the schedule is taken from the city financial system. If an asset number is not listed, the parcel is not included in the city financial accounting system. Information in the files indicates that some adjoining owners are interested in acquiring some parcels. Some parcels have unique circumstances, such as, water lines passing through them. Since some parcels were purchased with federal highway funds, the use of any sale proceeds must be for street purposes. Purchases and sales of real property are governed by BMC Chapter 2.78. Should the city decide to dispose of any of these, the procedure has already been established. Please contact me if you would like additional information. Gary W.
