HOTES-L
1. These restrooms are dimensioned to meet required
handicap measurement. The typical interior dimensions
finished are to be 7'-0" by 5'-r;,....' A 60" circle can be
inscribed free and clear with only an intrusion of 12" by
the door swing. Restrooms may be built single or in pairs.
2. Access to all lavatories, towel fixtures, mirrors, etc.
per U.B.C. Sec. 511. Grab bars 1 1/2" in dia. mounted 1 1/2"
off wall that extends 36" along and behind watercloset to
24" in front of same shall be installed 3.... above the floor.
3. All restrooms to be vented mechanically with ceiling
fans which provide complete air changes each 15 minutes.
4. Plumbi~g subcontractor shall provide a 6 gallon hot
water heater above the ceiling. Electrical connection by
electrical subcontractor. Insulate tank per ASHARE 90-80.
Vent hot water tank with pressure relief valve to exterior.
Set tank in pan drained to waste. .
5. Insulate all water lines above ceiling in cold unheated
space. I~sulate any exposed hot water or waste line if
wat~r temperature exceeds 120 degrees.
6. All dimensions locating fixtures are from finished wall
surfaces.
7. Finish surfaces per U.B.C. Sec. 510. ~VATo~y
a. Floor: Self cove vinyl or ceramic tile with cove
edge 5 inches up wall.
b. Base: Self cove vinyl or ceramic tile.
c. Walls: Harlite to .. feet above floor and extending
2 feet either side of and 2 feet in front of
water closet, with remainder finished with
2 coats of alkyd enamel on GWB.
d. Ceiling: GWB -eo recieve 2 coats alkyd enamel.
NOTE:
The following construction contract items shall be
considered bidder/design. The Contractor shall submit their
proposal based on the criteria as provided and 5upplemented
with the specific item standard in the industry for the
facility type proposed. These submittals will be reviewed
for their design conformance.

DESCRIPTION
The Silent Knight 5204 is a low cost, high feature
local fire evacuation control panel designed for
applications requiring manual and automatic fire
alarm as well as water flow and sprinkler superviso-
ry service. The basic unit offers local fire alarm con-
trol up to four zones, and central station communica-
tions with the optional, UL Listed Model 5205 Digital
Communicator. It is compatible with both 2- and 4-
wire smoke detectors. Compact, easy to install and
service, it delivers features you'd expect to find in
fire systems costing much more.

During normal operation, the 5204 constantly
checks smoke and other sensing devices for fire
conditions. It also conducts system checks to deter-
mine if any troubles, or systems problems, exist. If
the 5204 encounters a fire or trouble condition, it
sounds an audible warning in the local area, and
with the optional plug-in digital communicator
installed, it sends a report to a central station.
The 5204's microprocessor constantly runs pro-
grams to check inputs and carry out other routine
functions. If the programs ever stop running, a
watchdog circuit will detect it and reset the micro-
processor to resume normal operations.
When using the optional communicator, the Model
5204 conducts an automatic self-test every 24 hours
- at a time you select - and sends a report to the
central station.
Other features of the system include English-lan-
guage remote annunciation, which simplifies "Step
Programming" of custom options. Remote down-
loading of system configurations can eliminate the
expense of sending out a service technician for repro-
gramming. The 5204 has a built-in fire drill procedure.
The exclusive Accu-Zone™ feature measures and
displays zone voltages, so you can set up and test
the system without separate testing equipment. The
"Sensor Test" function allows a single person to test
the system, A short signal circuit ring occurs when
each sensor is activated. Sensor Test events are
stored in memory and can be viewed when testing is
concluded. Fuseless circuit board design eliminates
one of the most likely causes for service calls.
PROGRAMMING
On-site programming is available through on-board
touchpad or through any remote annunciator.
Remote programming can be accomplished through
the use of an IBM or compatible personal computer
and the Model 5541 Downloading Software and the
Silent Knight Model 5530 Modem. The optional Model
5205 Digital Communicator is required to use the
up/download function,
More than 60 programmable options are available for
customizing system configurations and end-user fea-
tures, including zone type (fire, sprinkler, waterflow,
undefined), and zone location descriptions.
Programmable dialer options include total number of
reporting attempts, account number and reporting for-
mat, and Touch- Tone@ or rotary phone line.
Hardware configurable for one or two phone lines.
Several time delay features, including number of sec-

OPTIONAL
DIGITAL COMMUNICATOR
The optional 5205 is a UL Listed digital dialer which
plugs in to the 5204 board. It has the ability to seize
Model 5205

two telephone lines to report alarms and troubles to a
central station. The 5205 digital dialer can supervise
the telephone lines and activate a trouble-alert if a
line failure is sustained for 45 seconds or longer.
Other communications/reporting features include:
built-in ring detector, re-try if communication failed,
two phone number capability (plus computer phone
for downloading), Touch-Tone@ and rotary compati-
bility. Optional ground start is available with Model
2608.
The 5205 is compatible with all major reporting
formats including SIA (security industry standard), SK
FSK(4/2), SK4+2 tone burst, SK 3/1, SESCOA 3/1
and Radionics BFSK. Format selectable by account

The 5204 includes an annunciator/digital programmer
inside the cabinet. Its six LEDs (for alarm, trouble,
silenced, AC/low battery, event memory, time
set'reporting) are visible without opening the cabinet.
The programmer allows for easy operation of all func-
tions. It features dual seven-segment display and
fourteen uniquely assigned function keys. Keys are:
ENTER, CLEAR, SILENCE, DISABLE (formerly
"SHUNT") and 0-9 used for ALARM RESET, CLEAR
ALARM MEMORY, DIALER RESET, REQUEST
DOWNLOAD, DISPLAY MEMORY, DISPLAY TROU-
BLES, SET DATE and SET TIME.
Remote annunciation is available through the Model
5230. This four-wire remote annunciator is easy to
operate. Its fourteen keys can perform the same oper-
ations as the main system annunciator, including
silencing, resetting, programming and displaying of
alarms, troubles and alarm memory.
Features include LCD display, backlighting and
English-language annunciation.
Up to four 52305 can be attached to one 5204.
Standby current draw per 5230 is 60mA, alarm cur-
rent is 120mA.

ARCHITECT/ENGINEER SPECIFICATIONS
The contractor shall provide a completely electrically supervised
fire alarm control system, The system shall contain a fire alarm
control panel to supervise and operate heat and smoke detection
devices, alarm signal devices and visual annunciators, An optional
digital communicator shall transmit fire alarm, trouble and supervi-
sory signals to a central station, The controller shall be UL Listed
for use under NFPA 71, 72A, 72B, 72C and 720 standards. It shall
provide power and control for four supervised detection zones, 2
supervised signal circuits, and, optionally, an approved plug-in digi-
tal communicator, The controller shall be Silent Knight 5204 or
approved equivalent.
There shall be four Style A detection zones. They shall accommo-
date heat detectors, products of combustion detectors, manual pull
stations, sprinkler flow switches and gate valve supervisory switch-
es intermixed as desired and permitted by NFPA 71, 72A, 72B,
72C and 720, Products of combustion detection may be either 2-
or 4-wire and shall be cross-listed by UL for use on the system.
The detection zones shall be programmable to (1) be cross zones
so that two adjacent detectors must sense products of combustion,
(2) automatically reset a detector to verify that smoke exists, (3)
see a single detector in alarm - before the alarm is sounded and,
optionally, a signal is transmitted to the central station.
There shall be two one amp supervised alarm signal circuits. They
shall cause the bells/horns to ring steady/pulsing/temporal through-
out the premises until reset or silenced.
The control shall be equipped with two auxiliary relays that shall be
programmed to operate on (1) alarm, (2)' zone trouble, (3) supervi-
sory, (4) supervisory trouble, (5) system trouble, The relays shall
maintain contact until cleared,

The control shall have an annunciator to sequentially indicate

BFSK, The optional plug-in digital communicator shall sound a
local trouble signal if the telephone service is interrupted for longer
than 45 seconds and it shall transmit a signal indicating the loss of
phone line service to the central station over the remaining phone
line. A signal shall also be transmitted indicating restoral of phone
service. The optional digital communicator shall be able to report
the loss of either phone line without regard to which phone line
failed first. If both lines fail, a local signal shall sound.
The optional digital communicator shall have the ability to send a
test signal to the central station every 24 hours, The test signal
shall be able to be transmitted at a specific time of day or night by
setting a program within the communicator.
The alarm signals transmitted to the central station shall indicate
which of the four zones is in alarm and which zones are in trouble.
Restoral from alarm or trouble shall also be transmitted by zone.
The optional digital communicator shall be capable of communicat-
ing to Silent Knight, Radionics or Ademco central station receivers.

OPERATION
The stations feature non-break-glass operation.
They are operated by a pull on the pull cover. This causes a key
latch to act against a retaining mechanism until adequate force
is applied to open the station, As the station opens, a switch is
released to initiate an alarm. The retainer in Model BG-8 is a
permanent high tensile spring, which eliminates the need for a
glass retainer. Whenso operated, the cover hangs down (and
cannot be reset without use of a reset key) indicating that the
station was used to initiate an alarm. (OPERA TED STATIONS
CAN BE SEEN UP TO 100 FEET AWAY.)
The attractive design of the stations highlights its engineered
simplicity and unusual dependability; bumping, shaking, or jar-
ring will not activate the switch or circuit. Instructions for opera-
tion of the station are clearly marked on the front of the pull
cover.

Manual Fire Alarm Stations shall be non-code, non-break-glass type equipment with a
key operated reset. and so designed that after actual Emergency Operation, they
cannot be restored to normal except by use of a key. An operated station shall be
designed such that upon activation, it will be visually detectable at a minimum
distance of one hundred feet, front or side. Manual Stations shall be constructed of
die-formed aluminum, with operating directions provided on the front cover in raised
letters. The word FIRE shall appear on the front of the stations in raised letters, five-
eights inch high or larger. Stations shall be suitable for surface mounting on matching
back-box, or semi-flush mounting on a standard single-gang box or switch plate, and
shall be installed not less than four and one-half feet, nor more than six feet above the
finished floor (Note: for installations in New York City, all Manual Pull Stations must be

The intended use of the Edwards 280B Series Heat Detector Is
to provide one source ot information that Is supplemental to
smoke detection to increase the probability that an early
warning will be provided so that property can be safeguarded.
Heat detectors do not always detect fires because the fIre may
be a slow smoldering, low heat type (producing smoke) or
because they may not be near where the fire occurs, or
because the heat of the fire may bypass them. ThIs detector
will not detect oxygen levels. smoke, loxlc gases, or flames.
Accordingly, Ihis device should only be used as a part of a
broadly based program ot fire satety which would include a
variety of sources of information on heat and smoke levels,
visual sighting of Ihe fire, extinguishment systems, and other
satety measures.

can contribute, within an overall fire safety program, to
reducing the risk of avoidable property losses. Under no
circumstances should these devices be relied on as the sole
measure to ensure fire safety. Danger will result if these
devices are relied on to any degree tor the protection of
human life.

Alarm signals can only be generated by interconnection with
separately Installed signaling devices.
3. DANGER - This device wiD not operate without electrical
power, and fires often cause cutoffs of electrical power. This
device does not contain a battery' backup power supply. If the
electrical circuit feeding the device Is cut, or is not providing
power for any reason, this device will not detect heat or
provide any warning of a possible fire. Nor will it provide any
warning Ihat It is not functioning.
4. DANGER - The rate-of-rise feature on the Edwards 2808
Series Heat Detector Is sublect to failure over time. The ratlt-

The alarm signal shall be Gentex model or
approved equal and shall be listed by Underwriters Laboratories
for Fire Protective Service hearing impaired. The model
shall also be listed with the California State Fire
Marshal and the Bureau of Standards and Appeals (NYC),
The alarm signals shall produce a sound output of 90 dBA or
greater peak as measured in an anechoic chamber.
The alarm signal shall be capable of changing from a steady
tone to pulsing without permanent alteration to the unit.
Maximum current consumption at 24VDC for alarm horn only
shall not exceed 17 milliamps and the maximum current con-
sumption for horn/strobe using 15 candela shall not exceed
140mA @ 12VDC and 95mA @ 24VDC, For those applications
requiring the higher candela output strobe with alarm horn, the
strobe output shall be 75 candela. The current consumption of
the strobe (1575) shall not exceed 105 milliamps @ 24VDC and
209mA @ 12VDC @ 1 Hz, and combined with alarm horn shall
not exceed 110mA @ 24VDC and 226mA @ 12VDC.
The alarm signal shall be provided with screw terminals for in-
