SUMMARY: Today's difficult environment demands that all the internal and external
requirements for operating a professional, accredited law enforcement agency be properly
managed. The Police Department intends to convert funding from one corporal position to a
lieutenant position. The authorized strength of the Police Department will not change. The
corporal FTE will be reduced from nine to eight. The fieutenant FTEs will increase from two
to three. The new lieutenant would be assigned to the Patrol division. The two patrol squads
would each be managed by a lieutenant.
ATTACHMENTS: (1) Lieutenant job description (2) Corporal job description (3) Memo—"Staffing
Change Proposal"
FISCAL IMPACTS (Include Budgeted Amount): The Department anticipates this reclassification
will cost an additional $9,700 in 2016 based on a July promotion. The Department intends to
absorb this increase in the current 2016 budget. The position will be fully budgeted
beginning in 2017.
