SUBJECT: OSTERHOUT PORCH ROOF
An upstanding citizen of the community (no, it wasn't Wayne)
asked me about the structural .integrity, or design
correctness, of the subject structure. I said I would look
into it.
Apparently, he/she has been observing the construction and was
astounded' to see a double 2x6 top plate supporting the roof
structure and spanning open areas of nearly 100' inches.
He/she is wondering if a mistake wasn't made in the design, or
an oversight in the review and approval of the design. An
ordinary person off the street would tend to expect such a
roof to be sagging severely between the posts within a very
short time.
I'd appreciate it if you would let me know:
c=J YES, the structure meets minimum code requirements and
severe sagging is not expected to occur.

Pursuant to Section 303(d) of the Uniform Building Code, a permit shall become null and void if
work is not commenced within 180daysfrom the date of issue, or if workaumorized by the permit
