SUMMARY: Pursuant to BMC 2.62.035(a), the Municipal Court Judge's salary is set by City Council
action. The City is authorized to receive Trial Court Improvement grant money if the Judge's salary
is set at 95% of the District Court Judge's Salary, effective September 1 of each year. That salary is
set, by law, by the Washington Citizen's Commission on Salaries for Elected Officials. We are
requesting to adjust the salary for the Judge to be effective September 1, 2015 to bring us into
compliance with the grant conditions and allow us to continue to receive grant funding.
Current salary$141,437.04, Proposed new salary$147,094.20 (this amounts include deferred
compensation.
ATTACHMENTS: Letter from the Administrative Office of the Courts regarding Salary Increase for
Judges for 2015 and 2016.
FISCAL IMPACTS (Include Budgeted Amount): For the 2015 budget cycle, the increase is$471.44
per month (total $1,885.76). This amount can be absorbed in our existing budget due to a vacant
position that has not been filled. We will include funds in our 2016 budget, but will seek necessary
council approval to officially amend the salary in August of 2016.
