HomeMy WebLinkAbout01/21/2015 6F AGENDA BILL CITY OF BREMERTON CITY COUNCIL SUBJECT: Resolution No. 3239 Study Session Date: January 14, 2015 HIPAA Compliance COUNCIL MEETING Date: January 21, 2015 Department: Human Resources Presenter: Charlotte Belmore Phone: 473-5926 SUMMARY: The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), the Uniform Health Care Information Act, and the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act(HITECH), require public and private entities that provide certain health care services to comply with regulations related to the collection, use, disclosure, and security of individually identifiable health information. The attached Resolution 1)designates the City's healthcare components; 2)designates the City as a Hybrid Entity; 3) designates the City's HIPAA Privacy Officer(s); and 4) directs and authorizes certain officials and employees to carry out this resolution. ATTACHMENTS: Resolution No. 3239; Exhibit A— HIPAA Compliance Policy; Exhibit B - Unauthorized Receipt and Disclosure of Health Care Information Policy.
