Over the last several months, three possible configurations emerged:
Option No. 1 — One vehicular travel lane northbound and southbound
Option No. 2 — Two lanes northbound and one lane southbound
Option No. 3 — Two lanes (northbound only) from 6 th Street to the Manette Bridge
At its Study Session on June 25, 2014, the Council narrowed the options to either Option No. 1 or No. 3.
Comments and concerns received from the public are summarized as follows:
Lou Weir recommended that the Council delay the decision until further study on an overall plan;
Roy Wilder agreed that an overall traffic plan should be considered due to concerns about the space
needed for buses;
Dale Gillespie provided his own results from an 'unscientific poll', which he obtained while observing
recent traffic and bike pattern;
Rick Feeney supported Option No. 1, and was impressed with how Bremerton supports bike riders;
Cliff Dietz preferred Option No. 1, and asked the Council to just eliminate both Options No. 2 and No. 3;
Jeff Allen preferred Option No. 1; but speaking on behalf of the Bremerton Food Co -op, expressed
concern at the lack of an overall comprehensive traffic plan;
Leo Stone speaking as a frequent bike rider, initially preferred Option No. 2; and can live with Option
No. 1, but not with the bike lane on the right side;
Deirdre McKeel liked Option No. 1 because it would make the road "multimodal ", but also liked Option
No. 2 since the proposed changes would benefit cyclists and drivers given current conditions; but added
her concerns about unknown costs and impacts in making any changes;
Martha Dalbeck hoped that the Council would reconsider Option No. 2;
Marcy Mathis supported Option No. 2, and believed that roundabouts were not pedestrian friendly;
Chuck Henderson expressed concerns with Option No. 3 due to impacts to bus service and increased
difficulty for ferry passengers to be dropped off or picked up near the terminal;
