PROJECT DESCRIPTION , '
The City of Bremerton received fundmg from the Department of Ecology 201
Murncipal Stormwater Capacity Grant Program to design a stormwater low impact
development (LID) project Proect critena and completion deadlines are specified,by
the grant The City's Proect Manager for this will be the Stormwater Permit Coordmator
under the direction of the Water Resources Manager '
The Marme Dnve LID Stormwater Retrofit wdl treat' and control runoff from
approximately 1 2 miles of urban roadway surface nd more than 800,000 ft of ,
impervious surface using LID and nutrient-specific filtration The existing system collects
runoff from the southem portion of Manne Drive, a portion of Rocky Pomt Road and
Kitsap Way, as well as runoff from surroundmg light commercial, residen#ial and school
impervious surFaces Water quality concems are pollutants from vehicles, yards, and
landscapes that contam polycychc aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), metals, fertdizers,
pesticides, and fecal coliform bactena This proect wll help meet the Sinclair and Dyes
Inlet fecal Coliform TMDL by improving water quality in Oyster Bay and will be a part of
an effort to reopen curre'ntly ciosed commercial shellfish harvestmg in the area
Underground infiltration, filtration, bio-swales, and pervious concrete sidewalks will
reduce water quantity and improve water quality at the stormwater outFall Water quality
will be improved by integratmg nutnent-specific filters mto this system prior to the outFall
Pervious concrete sidewalks will be instailed to increase the mfiltration while also
providing safe areas for the local elementary school and residents in this high
pedestnan use area The design will mcorporate fdtration systems, pervious concrete
sidewalks, and underground infiitration/detention pipe The system will be designed to
control, filter, and manage flow to the extent possible for the sod conditions
PROJECT GOALS
• Improve water quality ,
• Reduce the quantity of runoff mto Oyster Bay
• Develop a cost-effective design to use m retrofitting other City storm sewer
systems
• Less expensive maintenance
• Effectively treat stormwater runoff
• Reduce water quantity by infiltrating stormwater back into the ground
• Improve the area by adding pervious sidewalks and safe pedestrian routes
