SUMMARY: BMC 2050 32 (b) (2) states that those employees who receive a rating that exceeds the
rating "meets expectations" (or equivalent) may be eligible to receive an additional salary rate
advancement for an increase of one additional rate in the same salary band, if available, above the
initial rate advancement provided in subsection (b)(1) Ms Hawkins- Bates' current salary is
$71,081 52 (Band 11, Rate 4) This proposal would increase her salary by $2,251 30 (two pay
steps) The additional advancement proposed here requires the recommendation of the Mayor and
City Council approval
Mdenka Hawkins -Bates received an "exceeds expectations" on her annual performance evaluation
and Mayor Lent is recommending she be given the additional salary rate advancement Since being
hired one year ago, Ms Hawkins -Bates has increased public outreach efforts for public works
projects and improved the Department's interaction with the Public, including re- instituting the Tree
Committee and facilitating volunteer /department activities such as graffiti removal, Gateway
maintenance and School Zone markings, she has streamlined internal data management processes
to free up staff hours for more direct benefit to our citizens, reinvigorated the department's safety
training program, resulting in increased safety awareness and up -to -date safety training, and helped
manage the Conference Center project so that Engineering staff time could be focused on other
capital projects It is recommended the additional rate increase be effective as of Ms Hawkins -
Bates' anniversary date of December 31, 2013
FISCAL IMPACTS (Include Budgeted Amount) There are sufficient funds in the 2014 budget to
cover the increase in salary, therefore, no amendment is needed
