HomeMy WebLinkAbout12/18/2013 5J AGENDA BILL 5 1 CITY OF BREMERTON CITY COUNCIL SUBJECT: Approval to charge off Study Session Date December 11, 2013 uncollectable B &O tax debt COUNCIL MEETING Date December 18, 2013 Department Finance Presenter Becky Hasart Phone 360 - 473 -5722 SUMMARY- This item is a year -end housekeeping action The Bremerton Municipal Code section 3 86 250 allows the Director of Financial Services to " charge off any tax, penalty, or interest that is owed by a taxpayer if the Director reasonably ascertains that the cost of collecting such amounts would be greater than the total amount that is owed " However, any amounts over $1,000 require Council approval The City currently has two accounts over $1,000 that should be charged off The first amount is $23,309 61 (inclusive of interest and penalties), which has been in collections since July 2011 The second amount is $2,546 63 (inclusive of interest and penalties), which has been in collections since June 2010 Both accounts are related to businesses that have been closed for a period of time and both businesses do not have appropriate attachable assets to pursue ATTACHMENTS.
