SUMMARY: Sewer manholes located on the shoreline are covered most of the time with saltwater.
These are critical components to the sewer system and are hard to maintain because of the inability
to access them due to the changing We levels. The °sealing of these manholes will eliminate
saltwater infiltration and will slow the deterioration of the manhole structures. Epoxy products will not
work in this environment, the only product that will work in this application is Strong Seal which is a
calcium alumnnate.
Olson Brothers Pro-Vac LLC located in Puyallup, WA are the only contactors in the state to apply this
product, they are on the State Bid List and Small Works Roster. The cost submitted by Pro-Vac is
$25,000 + tax = $27,150
Contractor was authorized to proceed with the repair before Council approval; the project was
completed during the low tides for access to the manholes with a reduction of 50 to 60 per cent of
inflow of saltwater infiltration after completion of the maintenance project.
