SUBJECT- Purchase of Sensus Water Study Session Date January 23, 2013

SUMMARY: This purchase action has changed somewhat due to the results of additional research
conducted at the request of Council The new request is to purchase 1,882 transceivers for
$241,385 22, a price reduction compared to the $253,637 14 previous request Based on the
additional research, it now appears that the best course of action for the City is to purchase newer
technology Sensus transceivers and newer technology Sensus water meters, the combination of
which will enable migration to a "fixed base" meter reading system, should the City decide to do so,
in about 7 years See attached report, which compares the expense of changing the City's current
proprietary drive -by system (Sensus) with a different proprietary drive -by system (Badger)
