HomeMy WebLinkAbout08/30/1939 RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Company
has filed with the Public Service Commission, a request for
permission to greatly increase its phone rates, .which increase
in rates, if allowed, would increase the phone bills of all
telephone users in the City of Bremerton, and
WHEREAS, the rate increase requested also includes a
toll of five cents for each and every call between Bremerton and
Port Orchard, and a toll of ten cents for each and every call
between Bremerton and Silverdale, which would harass and burden
communication between the said communities, would hinder the
development of business between the said communities and would
change the policy of said Telephone Company with regard to rates
in the three communities, which are close together, and which
can properly be said to be one community in respect to the matter
of telephone communication,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMEISSION OF
THE CITY OF BRMMTON, That the telephone rates now in effect
are too high and that the same should be lowered.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That any increase in the present
telephone rates would seriously impede and hamper the social and
economic life of the citizens of the City of Bremerton.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the placing of any tolls on
telephone communications between the communities of Port Orchard,
Bremerton and Silverdale, would be unjust, discriminatory and
unfair to the Citizens of said communities, which are contiguous,
and for the purpose of telephone communication should be
considered as one community.
,
Y M
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the City Commission of the
City of Bremerton does hereby vigorously protest the increase of
rates or the imposition of tolls between said communities, and
recommends that the telephone rates should be lowered instead of
increased.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution
be distributed to the Press, and that a duplicate original copy
hereof be forwarded to the Public Service Commission.
PASSED by the City Commission of the City of Bremerton,
