SUMMARY: Each decade, the US Government conducts a census of the nation's population
Following the census, City district boundaries are changed to reflect the current population with a
view to provide the public, as far as possible, with equal City Council representation Also, at the
November 2011 election, the citizens of Bremerton approved a charter change reducing the City's
districts from nine to seven
To formalize the new district boundaries and the reduction from nine to seven, the City must hold a
public hearing on the proposed boundaries and then adopt the related ordinance The ordinance
cannot be adopted for at least a week after the public hearing The public hearing was held on
February 1, 2012 Tonight's action is to formally adopt the ordinance setting the seven district
boundaries
The new district boundaries information /maps are available on the City's web site If the public has
objections to the new boundaries, they do have a 45 day appeal process through Kitsap Superior
Court
