SUMMARY:
On October 11, 2011 the City Council's Planning Committee met and discussed potential
modifications to the City's One Percent for the Arts Program It was felt that it would be in the City's
best interest to suspend expenditures from the One Percent for the Arts Program for the selection,
development, and placement of art to a later date due to the City's current budget constraints
The committee discussed two options to suspend the program
1) Suspension of expenditures for new art and applicable capital projects would still contribute
money to the program (at this time there are no projects that are scheduled for contribution)
2) Suspension of both expenditures for new art and applicable capital projects would also not be
required to contribute to the program
After much discussion, a majority of the Planning Committee voted to forward to the Council an
ordinance that reflects Option 1 above Other highlights of the proposed ordinance include a) funds
from the One Percent for Arts program can still be expended for the repair, maintenance, and
installation of our current One Percent for the Arts collection, b) the terms of our current Arts
Commissioners will be extended for two additional years to cover the period of suspension, and
c) the period of suspension can be shortened or lengthened by the City Council
