SUBJECT: Ordinance to amend language Committee Meeting Date. July 27, 2011

SUMMARY: The proposal is to amend BMC 3 12 060, Authorized Expenditures from Arts Fund, to
clarify language in the purchasing requirements and allowing the Arts Commission to authorize
budgeted purchases totaling less than $2,000 00 The proposed ordinance clarifies that any
expenditures from the Arts Fund in excess of $2,000 00 requires a recommendation of the
Commission and authorization of the City Council
This modification allows the Arts Commission to authorize such purchases as art chalk for the
Blackberry Festival art contest, printing of event flyers, framing costs for approved art, and banner
arms for the artistic banners hung throughout the downtown area, where, in the past, these
expenditures required City Council approval
