SUMMARY: The current provider of public defense services for Bremerton Municipal Court
submitted their notice of intent to withdraw from their contract with the City earlier this year Four
firms responded to a request for proposal for public defense services All four firms were interviewed
by a panel who forwarded their unanimous recommendation to the Mayor, who agreed with the panel
and chose Eric Fong and Amity Bork of Bremerton Defenders to enter into a contract for professional
services for legal representation of indigent persons
This contract will begin on August 1, 2011 and renegotiated by (date to be negotiated)
ATTACHMENTS: Draft Contract — (certain terms still under negotiation)
FISCAL IMPACTS (Include Budgeted Amount) $15,400 per month ($184,800 annually) - within the
current budgeted amount

Move to approve the professional services agreement for legal representation of indigent persons to
Bremerton Defenders and authorize the Mayor to finalize and execute the agreement with
substantially the same terms and conditions as presented
