the committee has invested considerable time in determining the location and initial design, and
believed that the MOU will allow a public comment component for the design of the memorial
Adam Brockus asked if the City would consider other sites like Gateway Park Mr. Birkenthal
responded that the Parks & Recreation Board recommended placement of the memorial at
Evergreen Rotary Park, and that Council already approved the location by resolution last year
Gateway Park is actually far smaller than Evergreen Rotary Park, and would be less than
personal as a drive- through park which would not be the intent of the memorial
Will Maupin clarified that the decision before the Council tonight is to agree that the 9/11
Memorial Committee needs a process to take comment for the design phase of the project He
emphasized that the Memorial is appropriate for educational purposes, and would also be a
draw for tourism He pointed out that this public- private partnership is unprecedented, and
understands that there are still many questions that need to be answered
