SUMMARY: In 1978 Congress passed the National Flood Insurance Act. As part of this Act,
FEMA analyzed certa.in areas adjacent to streams,rivers and shoreline to determine flood hazard areas.
For the last several years the City has been regulating development in shoreline areas based upon the
designated certain areas in the Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM). FEMA recently updated the
Flood Insurance Study and produced new and updated Flood Insurance Rate Maps. The attached
Ordinance is necessary by Federal Regulation to make the City compliant with Nation Flood
Insurance Act.
