SUMMARY: Jeff Childs of the Bremerton Fire Department has applied for the voluntary separation
program implemented by City Council under Ordinance No. 5068. The program requires that the
position vacated remain vacant for at least one year unless otherwise approved by City Council. The
intent is that the separation results in a quantified ongoing savings for at least one year. It is proposed
that the employee receive a one month incentive payment rather than a three month incentive
payment. The incentive payment would be applied to COBRA payments until that one month of
severance has been expended. The resulting savings from the voluntary separation will be at least
$11,367 for 2009 and $31,197 for 2010.
