':L,/Xh~ 2. Describe the Scope of Services your organization will provide to promote tourism inside the City of Bremerton. The role of a visitor and convention bureau is to create economic development through tourism in a defined area. The Kitsap Peninsula Visitor and Convention Bureau (KPVCB) was established as a non- profit corporation (501-c-6) in 1983 to fill this role for the Kitsap Peninsula from Hansville through Gig Harbor and Bainbridge Island to the Hood Canal. The bureau works to generate interest in the area as a whole through the web, brochures, magazine and radio ads, travel articles and trade shows. Tourism has a large effect on the local economy. In 2006, travel spending in Kitsap County reached $251.7 million dollars, a $14.4 million dollar increase from the previous year and an increase of over $105 million in the last 10 years. Employment attributed to tourism exceeds 3,200 equivalent jobs with a payroll of $61.6 million and produces $4.1 million in local sales tax (Dean Runyan Associates, Washington State Travel County Impacts 1991-2006). Besides economic impact, tourism improves the quality of life for local communities. By promoting our area and increasing tourism, a demand for new businesses will emerge. New restaurants, hotels, bed and breakfasts, galleries, recreational facilities and other businesses will emerge to help meet the demand. These new facilities will bring more jobs, tax revenue, and recreational opportunities to our residents. Tourism is an extremely valuable asset to Kitsap and the City of Bremerton, and the KPVCB plays a significant roll in raising the quality of life and the economic impact on the peninsula. By promoting the whole Kitsap experience, enough activities and sites to see are presented to potential visitors to encourage overnight or multi-night stays. Since the City of Bremerton has the most lodging rooms and is the largest city on the peninsula, it should see the most benefit from the KPVCB's efforts. The KPVCB anticipates doing joint marketing with the Bremerton Area Chamber of Commerce in the 2009 year. The bureau also promotes the Bremerton Symphony, Historic Ships, Kitsap Museum, Puget Sound Navy Museum, Conference Center, Port of Bremerton, Admiral Theatre, and other tourism businesses. The mediums selected will vary from one organization to another, and may consist of print advertising, radio advertising, web site presence, electronic communications, brochure production/distribution, operation of Visitor Information Centers and travel magazine articles. . Joint Marketing: The KPVCB will match up to $5,000.00 that the BACC commits toward a video to run on all of the Washington State Ferries and terminals through Certified Display all year long. This will visually promote to over 24 million people all that Bremerton has to offer its visitors. . Expose Bremerton to over 1 million views via wwwVisitKitsap.com. . Produce and distribute 75,000 Kitsap Peninsula Visitor Guides which has many references to the City of Bremerton and Bremerton businesses. . Attract and tour travel writers through Bremerton. . The KPVCB, through its Kitsap Sports Council, will playa major roll in the effort to bringing professional soccer to Bremerton. . Market and promote the Bremerton Marina and nearby businesses through the KPVCB's publication of Boating Kitsap and www.BoatinqKitsap.com. . Assist with an inaugural sailing regatta whose final destination will be the Bremerton Marina. . In 2009, the KPVCB 'plans to hold a Travel Fair at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds in Bremerton.
