City Council Update - January 2nd, 2008
1) There are several new adult classes, the most important of which is the ballroom dancing
classes beginning this month, check them all out of the Kitsap YMCA website. They will
be offered on Wednesday and Fridays from 4-5 pm and Saturdays from 11 am until noon.
We are still interested in finding out if members of the community are interested in having
open dances or what has been called "Tea Dances", so if you have an interest please
contact the Y at 377-3741 and express your opinion.
2) The Resolution Run/Walk Series starts this Sunday at 9a m sharp, for those who want to
keep their New Year's health resolutions.. On the first Sunday of each month for the next
four months, there will be Runs of increasing lengths, with a five mile walk option for
those who don't choose to do the Run. You can save some money by registering now, by
getting a registration form online at kitsapfamilyymca.org, or pay a little more on Run day
when registration opens at 8:30 am. Hope to see many of you out there!
3) After the Holiday break, our award winning "Teen Late Night" resumes EVERY Friday
night from 8:30 to 11 pm. Many activities are available - swimming, hot tub, basketball,
dodge ball, to name a few - and it includes pizza and pop in the cost, which is just $5 for
non-member teens.
4) This month our "Splash & Jam," will be on the 19th of January. This is the "BIGGEST" Y
program of all, with well over 250-300 attendees every month. This is a great program for
families with children of all ages, on the third Saturday of each month.
5) A special announcement for the New Year, this will be my last report as the Marketing
Director for the YMCA. On the 15th of this month I begin a new position as the Executive
Director of the Kitsap Public Facilities District. It has been a pleasure working for the
YMCA and bringing you their current information each month, and I look forward to
working with you in this new responsibility for the KPFD.
