RESOLUTION NO. ~
A RESOLUTION of the City Council of the City of
Bremerton, Washington, approving a Lead Hazard Abatement
partnership between the Bremerton Housing Authority and Kitsap
County Consolidated Housing Authority for lead hazard abatement
of residential property in the City of Bremerton.
WHEREAS, homes built in 1978 and after could no longer use lead paint;
and
WHEREAS, residential properties built before 1978 are required to be free
of lead paint hazards if they are to participate in the Housing Choice Voucher program;
and
WHEREAS, the Kitsap County Consolidated Housing Authority (KCCHA) has
received a two year grant from the Washington State Community Trade and Economic
Development Department to provide free testing and repairs (up to $7,000) to correct lead
hazards in properties throughout Kitsap County; and
WHEREAS, since a large portion of homes that were built prior to 1978 are
within the City of Bremerton, it is important that a part of the funds are used to address the needs
within the City of Bremerton; and
WHEREAS, because the majority of the housing stock in Bremerton was built
prior to 1978, the potential for lead hazard exists; and
WHEREAS, KCCHA has offered to partner with the BHA to provide services
under their grant to residential properties within the City of Bremerton; and
WHEREAS, BHA approved the Lead Hazard Abatement Partnership between
BHA and KCCHA at its meeting of October 22,2007; NOW THEREFORE,
