SUMMARY: Risk'Management has successfully settled two workers' compensation claims filed by
former employees in the Public Works and Parks departments. In each instance, efforts to return the
employees to work have proved futile, and each has taken legal action in pursuit of benefits. With the
Mayor's and Mayor Pro Tempore's approval, negotiated settlements have been reached. Risk
Management requests a budget adjustment of$81,626 to the Workers' Compensation Disability Pay
line item and a reduction in the ending fund balance of the Risk Management Fund accordingly.

FISCAL IMPACTS (Include Budgeted Amount): The ending fund balance will be reduced by
$81,626 to pay the amounts due. Adequate reserves have been set aside to make these payments.
