SUMMARY: In October 2006 the City Attorney's Office hired a temporary part-time legal assistant
to provide support in order to meet the litigation demands of the office. Since that time, it has become
apparent that a permanent part-time position would greatly benefit both the City Attorney's Office
and the Risk Management Office by providing constant confidential administrative support. Staffis
requesting to create a position for Legal Assistant at Professional Pay Band 5 and authorize allocation
of .25 FTE to the City Attorney's Office and .25 FTE to Risk Management. Further, staff requests a
budget reallocation from current 2007 available funds to fund the position for 2007.

FISCAL IMPACTS (Include Budgeted Amount): Funds necessary for 2007 funding of this position
($37,514.64 annually to be pro-rated) would be reallocated in equal amounts from the City Attorney's
Office Supplies and Services Fund and the balance from the Risk Management Fund - Fund balance.
A 2007 budget adjustment will be required.

RECOMMENDED MOTION:
Move to create the position of Legal Assistant at Band 5 of the Professional Pay Band and authorize a
.5 FTE to be paid equally from the City Attorney's Office and the Risk Management Fund and,
further, to authorize a budget adjustment to fund the position for 2007.
