SUBJECT: Demolition of Kitsap Lake House Committee Meeting Date: ~o'lembcf 29,2066 [;;J./ (d 10 <P COUNCIL MEETING Date: December 6, 2006 I Department: Parks and Recreation Presenter: Wyn Birkenthal Phone: 473-5752 SUMMARY: Kitsap Lake Park has a limited amount of upland area where citizens can enjoy the lake front setting for fishing, picniking, lawn games and family events. The park's 32 acres contain less than 4 acres of developable land with the remainder in wetlands. Removal of the older, city owned house located in the park and development of a lawn on this site would allow citizens to use an additional acre of public waterfront property. On November 9th, staff presented this plan to the Kitsap Lake Property Association at their bi-monthly meeting where it was endorsed without reservation. The item will go before the Parks Board at their November 28th meeting. The Parks Department's 2007 Capital Budget contains $30,000 to demolish the house and create a lawn area. ATTACHMENTS: FISCAL IMPACTS (Include Budgeted Amount): There will be a reduction of$8,000 in yearly rental income from this action. New income sources that will come on line during 2007, including the Claremont Parking lease and second soccer building at Pendergast Park, are expected to completely off-set the loss in rent.
