'~{EREAS, the Police Department of the City of Bremerton has placed a
sign on the southwest corner of Sixth Street and Washington Avenue, reading
"euiet zone" for the guidance of motorists on account of the private
hospital between Fifth and Sixth Streets on the East side of Washington
Avenue, the said sign having been placed without any authority of the said
hospital having made any request therefor, and solely for the purpose of
calling attention of motorists of the existence of said hospital so that
motorists will not unnecessarily sound automobile horns or race their
motors, and
'~REAS, Bremerton Aerie #192, Fraternal Order of Eagles, is about
to purchase a building site on the southwest corner of Sixth and ~ashington
for the purpose of building a fraternal home on the said corner, which is
on the arterial highway passing through Bremerton and is in the downtown
business district, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles desires assurance of
the City Commission of the City of Bremerton that it does not contemplate
passing an ordinance or resolution designating the area near Sixt~ and
Washington streets as a euiet zone or hospital zone, and as the said
Bremerton Aerie #192 would not consider purchasing the said site or build-
ing thereon if there were any possibility that the said area would be
officially designated as a ~uiet zone, by the City Commission of the City
of Bremerton, the said Bremerton Aerie has asked the said City Commission
to e~ress its intentions in regard to the said matter, now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the City Commission of the City if Bremerton that
the City Commission hereby conmends Bremerton Aerie #192 of the Fraternal
Order of Eagles for the ~lans which it is making toward the construction
of a new and modern Aerie home at Sixth and Washington, and hereby informs
the said fraternal organization that the City Commission has no intention
of passing an ordinance or resolution or taking any other steps to declare
the area in the vicinity of Sixth and Nashington in 3remerton, Washihgton,
a ~uiet zone or hospital zone, for the reason that the said area is in the
main business part of town, is on the arterial highway and no request of
any kind, official or otherwise, has been made by the owners of the private
hospital situated nearby that the City Commission or the City police take
any official or unofficial steps to declare the said area a hospital zone
or euiet zone.
PASSED by the City Commission of the City of Bremerton, signed by the
Mayor and attested by the City Clerk in authentication of such passage,
this 16th day of ~arohm~ 1940.
