Authority to not increase rates on auto and passenger
ferries of the State of ;qashington.
h~J~AS the Washington State Toll Bridge Authority is meeting in
Olympia on August 6th, 1969, at 3:00 P.M. to consider the rate structure of
toll facilities in the Puget Sound area; and
h~tF3REAS many of these toll facilities, and especially the ferry
system, constitute a major part of the transportation system benefiting the
citizens of Bremerton and Kitsap County; and
h~RFAS although there are increased costs in the operation and
maintenance of the ferry system as part of the toll facilities, the present
rates are high and an increase will have the effect of further eliminating
the Washington State Ferry System as a method by which citizens of this
area are transported to other parts of the Puget Sound Region. Now, there-
fore,
BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Bremerton does
hereby urge the Washington State Toll Bridge Authority to use the services
of the Toll Bridge Advisory Council and carefully consider their recommenda-
tions to refrain from increasing rates on toll facilities serving this c~n-
munity without such consultation; and be it further
RF23OLVED that all four ferry routes serving this area have the
same rates, and be it further
RESOLVED that the~ashington State Toll Bridge Authority work in
conjunction with the Washington State Legislators in bringing about changes
in the present plan relating to toll facilities so as to provide that the
payment of costs of maintenance and operation be born by the entire state
system of highways to the effect that when costs of operation and maintenance
are increased, one area will not be penalized to the benefit of others.
ADOPTED by the City Council this 6th day of August, 1969, signed
by the Mayor and attested by the Acting City Clerk in authentication of such
