A RESOLUTION of support and a statement of prioritization by the City of
Bremerton for the application by the Port of Bremerton for Qwest Settlement
Telecommunications Project Assistance funding to provide broadband fiber optic
telecommunication services throughout the Port's industrial and airport properties.
WHEREAS, the City of Bremerton Comprehensive Plan calls for economic diversification,
the expansion of primary family wage jobs and a reduction in the reliance on federal government
related business as a top priority and a primary goal; and
WHEREAS, the Port of Bremerton's industrial and airport properties adjacent to the City are
well located to serve the citizens of Bremerton, particularly the neighborhoods of West Bremerton
which suffer disproportionately higher unemployment rates than other areas of Kitsap County; and
WHEREAS, the City recognizes that advanced telecommunication facilities are key to the
recruitment and growth of high technology businesses that will help fulfill the economic development
and job creation goals of the community; and
WHEREAS, the City further recognizes that improved telecommunication capital facilities
planned and built through intergovernmental cooperation and public-private parmerships are needed
to adequately serve business properties and to help promote economic diversification and
opportunity; and
WHEREAS, the State of Washington Community Economic Revitalization Board is
soliciting applications for funding under a Qwest Settlement Telecommunications Project to advance
the availability of telecommunication facilities to benefit the public, the state and region; and
WHEREAS, the Port is applying for said funds to provide diverse and redundant broadband
fiber optic telecommunication facilities throughout its 1700~acre industrial property in southwest
Kitsap County.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY TIlE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BREMERTON THAT:
The City of Bremerton highly supports and hereby states its very high local pfioritization of the
Port's application for Qwest Settlement funds to provide broadband fiber optic telecommunication
infrastructure and services throughout the Port's industrially designated lands adjacent to the City of
Bremerton in southwest Kitsap County.
