WHEREAS, the Washington State Legislature, during the 1990
Session, enacted ESSB 6358, a Transportation Funding Package, and
WHEREAS, this bill provides an increase in Motor Fuel Tax as
well as recognizes the need for additional authority to enable
cities and counties to utilize local option taxes to meet their
individual transportation needs, and
WHEREAS, Section 206 of the legislation provides for the
imposition of a Local Option Vehicle license fee by the county not
to exceed fifteen dollars per vehicle for each vehicle that is
subject to license fees under RCW 46.16.060 and is registered
within the county. Any funds collected under this section shall be
remitted to Kitsap County and cities within Kitsap County in
accordance with the formula set by the legislation.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the
City of Bremerton does support and endorse the adoption of a
county-wide vehicle license fee by the Kitsap County
Commissioners. That the funds collected from that fee for the
benefit of the citizens of the City of Bremerton shall be used to
improve the City's transportation system, including street
maintenance and expansion of the Six-Year Local Street Program.
